The Cancellations Tour Log - Day 2

Day 2 at The Nick in Birmingham Alabama was a blast! The drive there was short and easy so we had plenty of time to check in to our hotel and get a bit of rest. Dan was able to take a nap on a proper bed for a couple hours while the rest of us relaxed. I took advantage of the gym and got a nice work out in. We also were able to wash our super smoky clothes from the night before.

Ellie and I got some time to chat and bond over our recent losses and appreciate how much we like being able to spend this time together.

Show time quickly came and we all got ready. As I got ready I had this weird feeling like I didn’t have all of my gear, and guess what? We unloaded at the venue and I couldn’t find my pedal board! After a brief freak out we called the last hotel and turns out it was left in the room which is unfortunate because we did a double check of the room before leaving. I felt terrible for forgetting my gear…. Good news is we weren’t too far so we planned to go without for this show and stop back on our day off the next day. At least we knew where it was. Guess I should have brought my big board so we couldn’t miss it, lol.

The venue was awesome, and the staff were excellent hosts. The place had big Frequency vibes which anyone from my Madison home music scene would definitely appreciate. It was a private club venue which was unique and had a really interesting crowd of patrons too, one of which was a “punisher” which Dan taught me is that person that corners you and won’t stop talking at you. Worse, we could only understand about 30% of what he was saying. We all fell victim to the punisher.

The show went well, but had a few hiccups, probably thrown off a bit with me having to rock mostly one guitar sound. I gave Ellie a big hug partway through as a song was struggling to get started with some technical difficulties and it was a very endearing moment regardless of what she may say 😉
The first band was a noise rock solo act, second was a tight 80’s style classic rock band from Atlanta doing really fun originals with amazing guitar playing, and the last band was this awesome gen z all female band playing darker melodic punk called The Sick Fucks.

We hung out and partied for a bit after with lots of laughs and bedtime by 4AM. All in all it was another good show. Day 3 is a day off before we hit the next 6 shows straight through!
